Official Alesis Andromeda A6 Introduction Video (Synth Demo Promotional Reel) - VHS Source Copy

"I came across this old VHS that had an "introduction video" for the Alesis Andromeda synthesizer. The quality is OK, but there may be better sources out there as my copy was re-used. Under the labels for the promotional video, you can see that the tape was originally an Alesis Masterlink demo video. They just copied over it and added new labels.

The full video had this segment repeated over and over again for about an hour. I guess this was to play on screens at trade shows or music stores to drum up interest.

The demo sounds don't really hold up to today's standards or to what the A6 can actually do, but Alesis seemed to want to cater to the more upscale client that could actually afford the $3K price tag when it was released. (Think studio or session players.). So the sounds shown seem to cater to them. You do seem to hear a few snippets of actual crazy Andromeda sounds here and there though. What you see and hear here is peak late '90's/early 00's through and through."

"Swiss quality. Big fun in a small package. This is a Technosaurus Cyclodon—a compact, but powerful analog sequencer. How compact? About the size of a VHS tape with knobs! How powerful? You can choose 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, or 16 steps. You can change the step amount on the fly too. With all four switches down it’s 16 steps, but flip the first switch up and it’s 8 steps, etc. This gives more possibilities for performance. You can step it manually like a keyboard, or to play along to recorded sound or live when there’s no clock. You can use the internal clock or externally clock via Din Sync."

"This is the FULL 8MB version and all 16 voices work 100%!

This keyboard has been painstakingly repaired and restored, with a new OLED display, ALL NEW buttons (switches and caps) and faders, ALL NEW LEDs, and ALL NEW internal ribbon cables and connectors, and new quiet cooling fans with internal thermostats.

Not only do you get the above repairs, I have replaced the internal SCSI hard drive with a SCSI Compact Flash emulator (internal) as well as an external CF reader. "Some very different synth from the usual stuff I play :p
This is a 1993 rompler, just like the Korg M1 and all these realism-aiming synths. It's a keyboardless version of the Kawai K11, with 256 waveforms, 32 voices, 32-multitimbral in a desktop 1/2 rack format. Most of the sounds are single-waveform, so you get these typical 90s static pads, which sound very nice with verb. The only downside is that you need to program it thru 4 buttons and a rotative encoder... Very 1990 again x)

"I have taken two of my favourite experimental instruments the Folktek Mescaline & LepLoop Multicassa to play at the long-running event Splitting the Atom a Lost Property and Club Zygotic’s bi-monthly showcase of aural oddities, held in the strange gloom of The Green Door Store in Brighton UK.

* Folktek Mescaline V1 - Used for otherworldly sound textures, noise ,cosmic growls & glitchy vibes
* LepLoop Multicassa - Hartbeat and hypnotic organic rhythms
* DIY Soup tin microphone - Don’t trust any words that go through it.

Audio processing:
* Strymon Volante Magnetic Echo Machine - In looper mode. I love this pedal
* Empress Reverb - The world's greatest reverb (at least in my opinion the best I ever played)
* Chase Bliss Generation Loss MKII VHS Duplicator - a small task for a mighty pedal. It set before the reverb to create movement in the sound. Each time a kick from the Multicassa hit the reverb it caused a different reaction of the reverb.

I did not have much video footage of my set so used other acts that played on the day and from the previous event as those were both a pleasure to the ears and the eyes."

The Power Of CS1x - Ep1 - Airwolf, The Terminator, Don't You Want Me, Knight Rider and Jump

"For many years my wife and I have wanted to create something dedicated exclusively to the Yamaha CS1x synthesizer. Finally, after so much work, we are very happy to present you this mini series in which the sounds of the CS1x will be the protagonists.

Each episode will consist of 5 famous music presets that I created and performed on the CS1x.

The visual style and structure of these videos is inspired by early 90s learning video tapes.

The initial logo and the music, is a tribute to one of the most important distributors of VHS in those years in the United States, the 'Simitar Entertainment'.

To make these videos useful even for those who just want to learn how to play some pieces of this music from the past with their own keyboard/synth, I filmed the synthesizer from above in order to better understand the keys I press.

In this episode there is a brief description of the CS1x and a demonstration of 5 presets:

• Airwolf Theme - by Sylvester Levay - (Lead)
• The Terminator - Main Title - by Brad Fiedel - (Lead)
• Don't You Want Me - by The Human League - (Brass Chords)
• Knight Rider Theme - by Stu Phillips and Glen A. Larson - (Lead)
• Jump - by Van Halen - (Lead)

For the first time the videos where I play are live (improvised without a metronome). The sound you hear is pure CS1x, with no external effects.

Cherry Audio Memorymode - Sound Bank '79

"Drawing from the earliest days of polyphonic synthesizers, Sound Bank ‘79 for the Cherry Audio Memorymode finds its inspiration in synthesizer music found in documentaries and library music from the late 70’s and early 80’s.

A bank comprising 40 patches for instant inspiration. The goal was to squeeze as much vintage analog juice out of this plug-in as possible, primarily working within the constraints of the original Moog Memorymoog analog poly synth. There's a unique richness to the sound of a Memorymoog, along with it's expanded feature set, and Cherry Audio have definitely captured that.

Sound Bank '79 is a series of vintage tones for different synths and plug-ins, so look out for future releases. Recorded completely dry with no external effects or processing.

"When I first moved to Los Angeles I got a job working for Joe Goodman at the flagship Goodman Music store on Cahuenga Blvd. We were advised to specialize and I became the 'Wavestation' guy. I bought one myself and used it on every music project I worked on. I tried to sell a Wavestation to everyone who walked into Goodman Music. The night I brought home my Wavestation was magical. This was synthesis on a whole new level. Korg distributed VHS tapes to educate the public on the Wavestation EX and A/D units. I saved mine and decided to upload this video. I had a great time working at Goodman Music where I got a lot of opportunities to meet some great musicians. And the staff was great, I particularly liked working with Galen Walker and Michael 'Doc' Dosco who I kept in touch with for years, and manager Jim Mona."
